Godard Hackeur

Godard in 1978 give couple of conferences on the History of Cinema. ‘Seul Le Cinema’ is the second chapter and explain in what the cinema is unique for Godard. Instead of being chronological, he used styles and themes to bring together his own point of view of what is the history of cinema. For him, the cinema is where disciplines are responding to each others, doesn’t matter the century. Crossing periods, he develops films through texts, quotes engaging therefore the problematic of History, Memory and Cinema.

Angry Angers

Yesterday night at Schools in Angers, University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm performed two pieces shaking and questioning the contemporary dance world.

Halla Olafsdottir and Amanda Apetrea gave us intense, hyper humouristic, strongly performed solos. They both de-hierarchised the idea of virtuosity breaking the pedestal on which dance still sits.

The new generation is starting to attack the dance industry with ideas and research, because this is what schools are made for: pushing boundaries and transforming society.

How I started thinking about recycling

I think it all started with a sentence I heard at the beginning of the year: ‘Make something that haven’t been seen before. Isn’t it impossible? Isn’t it impossible to create an original piece? Is it possible to create something new by using what have been done before? Why not going backwards, looking at what have been done before, re-doing it, re-using it because everything that we are doing is influenced by what we’ve seen? How appropriate everyone’s work?

Breathless (A Bout de Souffle) ‘Le Meilleur Film Actuel’. This trailer plays with words in relationships to their common meaning as well as their relationship to the image with which Godard is linking them.

Without Subtitles

Performed by Danell Nelson and myself, ‘Without Subtitles’ is the piece I am working on. Applying a montage system into choreographic work, my research for this work is looking at Lev Kuleshov, The Situationists, Philippe Découflé, the New Wave Generation, Jacques Tati among others.

‘Without Subtitles’ explores how meaning is created in performance by purposely disrupting possible linear readings of content. These manipulations use movement, words, objects and sound as a material questioning of their ability to create noise. The notion of noise in the semiology field is a distraction disturbing the transmission. According to Roman Jakobson, noise affects a signal during its transmission from sender to receiver, therefore the received signal is different from the one transmitted.

The research question I am looking at encloses the large area of montage as a  technique of producing meaning by juxtaposing material.

I am amazed by this Tupperware demo.
